Discovering Russia from the Inside and Out
At the end of February, the HSE IGITI Research Centre for Contemporary Culture hosted a roundtable entitled ‘Field Studies in Russia: A Country Familiar and Foreign’. Roundtable participants talked about field work methods and standards, research challenges, and ways to solve them. The participants also discussed the extent to which it is possible to apply international experiences and approaches to field work in Russia as well as ways to study Russia from within and without.
HSE Tops List of Russian Universities Viewed Most Influential by Young People in RAEX Ranking
In a new RAEX Analytics ranking that evaluates Russian universities in terms of their societal influence, HSE took third place, leading the list in terms of popularity among young people and taking second place in terms of online influence.

The Armensky Annual Inter-University Research and Technology Conference has concluded at MIEM HSE. Out of 200 submitted papers, 32 works by high school, undergraduate and graduate students participated in the event. Spring Admissions Deadline for HSE Doctoral Programmes Extended to March 13
The first admissions period for HSE’s doctoral programmes continues. The PhD programme in Economics is one of the programmes still accepting applications. Doctoral candidates of the programme have the opportunity to defend their dissertations before the specialized dissertation council and receive a PhD from HSE University.

On March 5, leaders and professionals of the sports industry met at HSE University for a conference about the football industry, its economic potential, and education. At the conference, Russian Minister of Sports Oleg Matytsin and Alexei Sorokin, general director of the organizing committee for EURO 2020 in St. Petersburg, announced that despite the current coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship will run as scheduled. Stanislav Cherchesov, Head Coach of the Russian National Team, discussed how the team will prepare for the tournament, and HSE Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov gave remarks regarding the economic potential of Russia’s sports industry.

Additional certification and training courses can not only affect an employee’s pay grade and career, but their sense of control over their life. Employees who have ‘upgraded’ their professional knowledge and skills find it easier to manage problems both in their personal lives and in the workplace. However, the trend does not hold equally for men and women. A study by Natalia Karmaeva and Andrey Zakharov of the HSE Institute of Education shows that men reap more benefits than women.
