On October 10^th, 2012, Professor Ronald Inglehart, Academic Supervisor of the Laboratory for Comparative Social Research, spoke at the Open Seminar meeting at the HSE Saint Petersburg Faculty of Sociology. In his lecture he spoke about why Karl Marx’s forecasts will never come true and how culture alters the modernization process.

The Social Science Research Network has published its university rankings for September, 2012.

Evgeniy Yasin, Academic Supervisor of the HSE, in an interview with “Itogi” spoke about the years of transition in the Russian economy and his own role in the transformations that took place.

On September 24^th 2011, Craig Calhoun, new Director of the London School of Economics, gave an open lecture at the HSE International College of Economics and Finance on ‘Social and Political Challenges Facing Global Capitalism’.

On September 18^th 2012, a delegation from the European Research Council (ERC) visited the Higher School of Economics. ERC representatives spoke about how Russian researchers can access the grant programme of the Council.

On September 10^th the first after-summer seminar ‘Actual Research and Developments in Education’, took place as organized by the HSE Institute for Educational Studies. Sir Michael Barber, member of the HSE International Advisory Committee, spoke on ‘Oceans of Innovation: the Atlantic, the Pacific, Global Leadership and the Future of Education’.

From September 24^th – 26^th 2012, the 11^th International Conference on Perspectives in Business Informatics Research (BIR 2012) will take place at the HSE campus in Nizhny Novgorod. We asked Professor Eduard Babkin, Head of HSE Department of Information Systems and Technologies, to tell us about the conference.
