The steadily growing interest in studying at HSE University, particularly among applicants from CIS and Asian countries, reflects the high quality of Russian education. This year, as part of a separate admissions process for international applicants, 2,267 students were enrolled across all HSE University's campuses for the 2024/25 academic year, representing a 14% increase compared to last year.

November 1 marks the start of the international admissions campaign for foreign applicants aiming to enrol in 2025. The results of the 2024/25 international admissions campaign were reported earlier.

HSE Vice Rector Victoria Panova commented on the increasing demand for Russian higher education, emphasising the campaign’s success: 'There are several factors that explain the interest in studying at HSE University specifically. Applicants and their parents are drawn to the opportunity to receive a high-quality, world-class education across various fields of study. HSE University holds top positions in both national and international rankings. Our graduates are in high demand across most sectors of the labour market and can expect a very competitive salary right at the start of their careers. This is further evidenced by HSE University’s top position in the Forbes Education ranking of universities with the most trusted degrees.'

By earning a degree from HSE University, graduates gain access to a world of great opportunities and a diverse array of modern, well-paying professions.

Total number of applicants

The number of applications for bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes has also increased this year: there are 33.3% more applications for bachelor’s degrees and nearly double the number of applications for master’s degrees. At the same time, the ratio of enrolled students to total applications has decreased, indicating a rise in the requirements for foreign applicants. Similar to the previous year, representatives from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, and Turkmenistan are the most prevalent among the first-year bachelor’s students for the 2024/25 academic year. The influx of students from Moldova, Vietnam, and Armenia has increased. There has been a significant increase in the number of enrolled master’s students from Pakistan, Nigeria, Ghana, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, while the number of applicants from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, India, and Kyrgyzstan to master’s programmes has decreased.

Areas of study popular among international applicants

As before, the most popular bachelor's programmes among international students include Design, Business Administration, and Economics. As for master's programmes, Data Analytics for Business and Economics, International Relations: European and Asian Studies, and Finance enjoy the greatest demand.

According to Alexander Deev, Director of International Talent Development, 'The 2024/25 admissions campaign was successful, thanks to the coordinated efforts of all HSE University's campuses. We are proud that HSE University is chosen by truly talented applicants not only from Russia but also from around the world. Thanks to our unified admissions system, international applicants do not need to take examinations at each individual campus or travel there in person, making the process more convenient and ensuring equal opportunities for all.’
